Women Who: Events entrepreneur Danielle Waller
In this Women Who feature, City&Style catch up with Danielle Waller director of event management company Event That.
Find out how Danielle made the transition from heading up the business development team of a luxury property development company, to taking the leap into running her own full service events business with her father David.
How did you get into working in property development?
A few years ago I was head hunted to join the sales team for a UK based luxury residential developer. I was asked to raise the brand awareness for the company which was a fantastic challenge, a challenge is always something that I like to take on. The company is now one of the most sought after developers within the United Kingdom. Challenge completed!
You are currently going through a career change, what prompted this?
I went to Dubai on holiday earlier this year, where I was offered a job there on one of it’s entertainment islands – running events from concerts to corporate bookings. My heart skipped a beat and I just knew I wanted to get back into the event industry – the only problem was that I loved the UK too much. Upon returning I still had that same feeling, so I decided that there was no time like the present and I registered Event That with Companies House and the rest, well take a look at eventthat.co to find out!
What sort of services will you be providing?
Event That Ltd is a new, young, fresh and vibrant event management company. We specialise in organising conferences, award dinners, themed nights, fashion shows, roadshows, team-building and entertainment.
Will you be focusing on Birmingham?
I love Birmingham, it truly is the UK’s second city. I firmly believe that even in the current economic climate, whatever a clients budget may be, my team and I at Event That can organise some of the most exciting events in the city. We do work throughout the entire UK, but I will always have a soft spot for the Heart of England.
What would you say is your business USP?
Clients don’t buy my business they buy me and my team. We don’t want to be just another event company and at Event That we like to help our clients gain more business by introducing them to our contacts and our clients. I firmly believe that to be successful in this world, people and businesses have to work together and putting people together is what we do best.
What is the key to organising a great event?
Passion – the passion to please a client. The passion to create something from a blank sheet of paper to bringing it to life. The passion to unearth every tiny detail from the stage set design through to the colour of the table linen. Passion has to be present in a small event for 10 people, to a large event for 10,000.
What sort of things do you get up to in your spare time?
Spare time?? Ha. My family breed and show Welsh Mountain Ponies (have a look www.delamistud.com) so I spend a lot of time with them when I have it to spare. I enjoy going out with friends, going to the gym and also the cinema. I also spend a lot of time shopping and I have a tendency to collect shoes and handbags – typical woman really!
